Beginners are guided by oral teaching. Gradually one applies [them]self more and more. Skill will take care of itself.” – Song of the Sip Sam Seh

In our Moo Duk Kwan flag, the blue scroll stands for scholarship. Chang Shi Ja (Founder) Hwang Kee believed that martial artists must be both warriors and scholars to improve themselves and contribute to world peace.

Our practitioners work to build skill with the material of the art, but also work outside of the dojang to further their knowledge as a whole. Cascade Moo Duk Kwan practitioners are a combination of students, educators, healthcare workers, chefs, counselors, accountants, and more. One of our practitioners just graduated with their master’s degree in adult education while simultaneously earning their Cho Dan (first degree midnight blue belt). Congratulations to Sage Wilkirk!
